Certifications / Requirements

Want to be a Coach? Interested in helping out with a program? Below are the Ohio Department of Education (ODE) and Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) requirements in order to become a paid or volunteer coach in the State of Ohio. These certifications/requirements should be on file in the district office prior to coaching or volunteering for any sports program.


  • BCI/FBI Background Check (Midwest Regional Educational Service Center)
    • Upon board approval, you will receive information regarding your BCI/FBI background check at the MRESC in Sidney, OH. This information will be sent via USPS along with your coaching contract.
  • Fundamentals of Coaching (www.nfhslearn.com)
    • Fundamentals of Coaching Certification can be completed at the NFHS Learn website.
    • Approx. 4-5 hours * does not have to be completed in one session
    • Cost: $65 (reimbursed at % of contract)
  • Concussion in Sports (www.nfhslearn.com)
    • Concussion Certification can be completed at the NFHS Learn website.
    • Approx. 30 mins
    • Cost: FREE
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (Wilson Health)
    • CPR Classes provided by Wilson Health Sports Medicine Athletic Trainers.
    • CPR Class Schedule 2020
    • Cost: $6 (covered by Athletic Department)
    • Register by emailing Athletic Trainer, Ryan Castle at ryan.castle@loramie.k12.oh.us
  • First Aid and Safety – Pupil Activity Class (Wilson Health)
    • First Aid and Safety  – Pupil Activity Class provided by Wilson Health Sports Medicine.
    • PAP Class Schedule 2020
    • Cost: FREE ($20 if not a Wilson Health Affiliated School)
    • Registration Form
  • Sudden Cardiac Arrest (ODE – SAFE, Learning Management System)
    • NEW! Lindsay’s Law – Sudden Cardiac Arrest training is found through the Learning Management System in your ODE – SAFE Account.
    • Approx. 20 mins
    • Cost: FREE
  • Pupil Activity Permit (ODE – SAFE)
    • Application for your PAP can be submitted through your ODE – SAFE Account.
    • Will be approved AFTER all other requirements have been fulfilled.
